Regal RC-51 Metal Body Tricone Resophonic Guitar

Pros:

  • Amazing looks
  • Traditional construction
  • Good tonewood

Cons:

  • Need to change strings
  • Quite expensive so I would not recommend it for beginners

RC-51  is a stunning guitar, both in appearance and functionality. The nickel-plated bell-brass body is perfect for blues, ragtime, or jazz standard. The construction of this model makes this guitar comfortable enough for beginners to take on the exciting process of learning new styles while also making it a great option for professionals to experience the style and construction that are less prevalent these days. Although it might seem to be in higher price range for acoustic guitars (especially for beginners) this baby brings the sound, tone and comfort that are hard to match.

Build

After staring at this model for a couple of minutes, just taking in its beauty and complexity, you should probably start looking and the details of construction (I know… it is hard). The looks are definitely not the only big advantage of this model. The tonewood and construction are pretty great, offering a synergy of traditional and modern techniques. This is a Tricone style model that boasts beautiful looking nickel-plated bell-brass back and sides as well as the top with nickel-plated finish. The slim neck with slotted peghead will feel so comfortable you might think you have held this baby thousands and thousands of times and have become one with the instrument.  The fingerboard is made of rosewood and the traditional neck-body joint makes this model not only a stunner but very sturdy and durable.

Hardware

The Regal RC-51 is equipped with 3, 6-inch spun aluminum cones with traditional cast aluminum T-bridge and two-way adjustable truss rod as well as brass cover plate. The hardware is nickel plated that enhances the mesmerizing sound while also giving it a sharp, edgy look. The saddle on RC-51 is made of Rock maple while the nut is made of bone, one of the most renowned and loved materials, which is a great for this specific model because it offers great  transmission and sustain. It also features open-back tuners for precise tuning.

Sound

The well balanced tone and traditional sound that have been achieved through combining traditional methods, great tonewood and modern techniques are a winner and something a lot of professionals as well as beginner would enjoy. The one thing I would say is that you should probably change the strings to achieve better sustain and sound, apart from that I think this model brings what is promises – great, traditional look and feel.

Conclusion

For over 80 years Regal Resophonic Guitars have had the reputation that a lot of other companies are still striving to achieve. When you pick up one of their models you are instantly taken back into the old times (fortunately, not in the bad way). Although it is an amazing addition to guitar collectors or professional musicians, this baby is a perfect fit for beginners who want to master the art of jazz, blues and ragtime.
