Not An Investment, Simply An Ambition

There are many who do not understand the importance of the bass. Many who believe that the bass guitar is simply there to fill up the gaps. To people like these the bass guitar is simply the mediator between the drums and the rhythm and solo guitars. Despite the fact that there are many bass players who might seem like these almost useless additions to band, this is the biggest misconception among the coming generation of musicians. The bass player is one of the most important members of the band and often is the reason the band (if we are talking about rock and roll) stands out from the fodder that surrounds them. Skilfull bass players don’t just keep the song together and fill the gaps, these instrumental wizards, when given the freedom, bring the level of funk, depth or just plain energy to the song that causes the songs to become anthems for generations. There are many specific examples, but to any beginner bass players out there looking for the best cheap bass guitars available to them, I have something to say: You are one of the most important and best parts of the musical world. Without you no song will have energy, so push yourself and see how far you can take the song with your own creativity. I mean, if you have heard me talk about the best bass guitars, you must know that I have the bass player from my original band to thank for where I am, now, musically speaking.

Ibanez Talman TMB100 IV 2015 Ivory Electric Bass

There once stood an ivory tower on the edge of the grounds owned by Ibanez. It had been lost for a long time, forgotten and ruins. Then one day a man discovered the remains of the tower. Knowing that it could never be rebuilt he chose to make the remains into the Ibanez Talman TMB100 IV 2015 Ivory Electric Bass. Now you can have this piece of an ivory tower and all the amazing tonality that comes with it. Might not give you special magical powers, but this bass guitar will definitely give you the power of music. The mahogany body of this guitar is lightweight, easy to practice with. The design is slightly retro slightly pop culture, but nothing that cannot be appreciated by a knowing eye. The rosewood neck is comfortable to work with, while the 2 single coil pickups provide clean, crisp sound that the prudent buyer will appreciate, as much as a professional would.

Pros:

  • Thick, warm sound
  • Cool Design
  • Mahogany Body

Cons:

  • Just the Basics
  • Weak high tones

Dean ML Metalman Bass

When they asked me, in my junior year of highschool, what my favorite musical genre was, the answer was always obvious. Now that so many years have passed it seems almost like a mockery of my teenage years. Two words I used most often to describe my preferences are now combined into one and used to name a bass guitar that looks like it belongs to Gene Simmons when he was in high school and could have gotten a hold of his iconic axe. I love it. The fact that a bass guitar with this much personality is so easily accessible to the beginners, kids and anyone in the world currently, seems like a miracle to me. The fact that Dean ML Metalman sounds good, plays easy and is comfortable to hold for long periods of time is simply the best thing ever. And if you are like me and worry about things too much, stop right now, because this guitar is incredibly affordable.

Pros:

  • Great Look
  • Incredibly Cheap
  • Full tone

Cons:

  • Soft Body
  • Weak Sound

Fame, Fortune, Bass

The beautiful thing about music is that it will always end up surprising you at some point. For all you aspiring bass guitar players I have a small present. I compiled a mini of three of the most famous bass players with a short discussion of how they contributed to music. Look up to these guys, because even with the best entry level bass guitar you will not get anywhere without a dream.

Flea

You probably don’t need me telling you about flea. This man, this living legend, with whose help the Red Hot Chilli Peppers have been going at the popular musical culture with violence, non stop since 1991. This guy uses his bass guitar not to simply keep rhythm. His slapping and pulling style, funky rhythms, creative approach to playing the bass and making it an integral part of the song, have earned him the name of one of the most important bass players in the world.

Victor Wooten

Not satisfied with rock opera? Well have at Victor Wooten. This man is more than just your parents’ favorite bass player. This man is one of the best bass players to ever live on this planet. To him the bass guitar is not simply an addition to everything else. This man believes the bass guitar is a solo instrument and it shows in his performances. Energetic, jazzy, he does not mess around when he picks up a bass guitar. Which is why he has had an incredibly successful solo career, as a bass player.

Lemmy

This guy, may he have peace wherever he is, is a heavy rock and metal legend. You don’t like Victor or Flea, and you want more distortion and sustain, more heavy, so you go to Lemmy. This man did not play the bass guitar as you would expect. He picked chords just as much as he picks single strings at a time. He believed that the true energy of the bass guitar lies within playing it to produce as much energy as possible. Which is why when you listen to him play you won’t realize that his bass is the lead guitar.

Conclusion

It was way back when I was just getting into my sophomore year in highschool that I really started getting into music. It was at this time that I had the idea to start a band for the first time. Strange I know but we all develop at our own pace. The only reason this band ever actually worked out was because I met the amazing kid with the dream to be the greatest bass player who ever lived. This kid helped me get together a band, with my sister. This kid helped me learn the guitar better and this kid helped me gain the confidence I lacked to perform in front of people. Yes the people were kids my age, who I will tell you are usually the worst critics (seriously), and the gigs were performed either at school events or by my garage. This kid was the reason we had one original song that we (unfortunately) never recorded, the song that was popular among the kids our age. He was the reason I had as much fun as I did being a teenager. He was a year younger than me, yet he knew what he wanted and he knew how to get it. Today the kid is already a man and he is a part of a band in Europe, travelling, playing gigs and, potentially, about to be famous as it gets. Hoping that I give more chances to kids like he was to grow up to be successful at what they do and love it. I have made this list of the best cheap bass guitars. Now go ahead and rock the world kids (or not kids, whoever, just do you man)

Good Luck!
